Uh… stop please.

iAttire – costumes for your ipod.

The lingerie is kind creepy. What no crotchless thong ready for, uh… docking?

iProposals?

It’s the month of love and looking at this pool on Flickr made me wonder, has anyone heard of anyone proposing ala ipod?

How hard could it be? Record a audio file of you asking the big question, name it “Will you marry me?”, put your name as the artist, “Diamond Ring” as the album name and a picture as the art (if they have a color screen model) and load it up on their favorite playlist and wait for the call.

If anyone hears about this happening, let me know. Google shows nothing for it. Could it be I am predicting the future?

Edit: I found some folks proposed with an engraved ipod.

But then I found this post someone HAS done it, though not exactly the same.

My BIGGEST wish for iTunes

Okay, here I am hoping I have some ITMS dev team readers here, long shot I know… My mom gave me $50 in itunes for basically being the most perfect child she’s birthed (Up yours Chris! HA!!), so having money to blow, I thought this would be an ideal time to pad out my 80s collection.

I WANT ITUNES TO LOOK IN MY LIBRARY AS I ADD SONGS AND TELL ME IF I HAVE THEM ALREADY!

I want it to say “Oh waitaminnit toots, it looks like you might have this song already (show a list of any close matching titles and/or artist names) Do you still want to buy this song?” and then give me a yes and no button.

That’s all I want. Really. PLEASE. All this three window crap so I can more effortlessly jump between my genre list, my shopping cart and the store window is a pain in the ass and avoiding it would be worth the world to me. Even if it only came in the form of coloring the title names in the store so I knew oh I have that” would be GREAT. Please?

(BTW who wants to do a 80’s song swap? I’m old, I’m not scared to admit it damn it.)

Nice.

iPodlounge has a slight redesign. I think it’s easier to digest now in just three columns.

Previously it was 4 to 5 columns, and it got a little hard to hop around with the extra feature boxes, and highlights and other stuff screaming for your attention – I think so far this is a nice subtle improvement.

By the way click on the graphic to the left there, I wanna win some pricey headphones.

allyorcaps.gifSo, on my macmentor site some of the guys were trying to best each other with how many free song iTunes Pepsi caps they have gotten, one said five, another 7… I had to finally announce my total, and its actually grown a few in the past two days… 120.

That’s not a typo, one hundred and twenty caps. A few have come from friends, but mostly they come from my dad who gives me three to seven a day from the guys at his night shift job in a hot machine factory – oh hell yeah. A few days I hit the daily limit of ten and had to save a few for the next day. At this point I want to hit the 200 cap account limit, oh yeaaaah. Just to say I did.

Have I won an iPod mini? Nooooope. No fair! (If I win one it’s going to my Mom).

Now, 50 are in my account right now just waiting to be spent. I’m gifting them to Mr Man so he can pick some god awful 80’s heavy metal and hair bands so he has a playlist of his own. See? I share!

So, how many caps has you gotten?

My family rocks

My ipod is being fed well with the re-run of the Pepsi iTunes caps.

My dad drinks several at work, and his buddies there give him their caps, he ends up giving me anywhere from 3-7 codes each night! My brother and his wife are giving me codes as well. SCHWING! (Got a code you aren’t gonna use!?Feed my iPod!)

So far? 31 songs! I bought the new Lewis Black stand up album, but I still have 21 song credits waiting to be cashed in.

Any suggestions on what to buy next? I am mui eclectic, willing to listen to pretty much anything from Dean Martin to Marilyn Manson to Medieval German bagpip music.

He’s home!

My ipod arrived home today. Sure it might not be MY ipod specifially (since they just replace them with new refurbs when a battery blows out), but that’s ok, he’s mine now. And he’s scratch free!

My chrome back was never what I would consider bad before, but it had some scratches sure. Too many iPod folks get WAY too concerned about scratches. They just need girlfriends, and less Radiohead on thier ipod.

But back to MY iPod, yesterday marked one year since I ordered him. He’s come on two vacations, a camping trip, and every car ride I have taken since then. He has 7 cases, a digital camera media reader, a iTrip, a bunch of assorted cords for power and stereo hookup, two splitters and three sets of ear buds – and I carry this all in my purse everyday with my digital camera – I’m mad. But I can’t imagine NOT having an iPod now.

Sniff

My baby has just shipped off back to Apple.

I’ve been getting some pretty lousy battery time (2 hours or so tops) with my iPod for several months, so they are replaceing the battery for me. It’s all under the orginal 1 year warranty (I bought him Feb 14 last year) so my Apple care isn’t even being used for this.

I should have sent it off a long time ago really, but I was testing, with and without headphones, letting it run sitting othe desk without earbuds, just keeping metnal track how long it lasted.

Anyway, he shoudl be gone a week (EEEKKKK!!!) becasue I think they go back to the factory in China.

I think I’ll make it that long, just need to learn all the radio stations again.

iPod me

Sockhop

Dave and I were talking, we both want Socks for our iPods.

He wants grey, I want orange or green.
That leaves pink, turquoise, purple, and either green or orange up for grabs.

We are looking for other folks to split a box of socks with. They come out to $5 each, and say and extra buck for mailing stamps. $6 and you have a sock. We’ll split them up evenly depending on how many interested folks we get.

New iPod Products

Griffin Technology has been BUSY making new iPod products, so are quite spiffy.:
New auto holder – thats cheap and actually nice. Those who know me know that I’m a freak for all cases and holders for my pod.
iBeam – turn your pod into a flashlight or a laser pointer (not sure I see the use in this one
EarJams – snap on adapters for Apple issued white earbuds. Turns them into sure fit in-ear canal phones with improved sound.

I think I need at least that podpod.

iPod Wars

Apple accuses Real of ‘hacker tactics’.

I’m so unexcited by this news, first, it’s Real for christssake – their media player sucks. They’ve never managed to get the damn thing to work on macs right. I doubt they can manage this application of theirs to make their music downloads work on iPods to begin with.

I have personally fought RealPlayer for I think for going on ten years. It has NEVER worked right on the mac. In all this time, you’d think they’d hire a mac programmer and whip it into shape. There are hundreds of thousands of free mac shareware applications made by single people that work far better than anything real has ever come out with and they are a corporation with I imagine dozen of prgrammers. If they won’t take the effort to make their signature player work on the Apple’s platform, what should make me believe they “get apple” now?

If it does actually work I bet it’ll be so damned difficult, buggy and troublesome (so much like all the other Real software) that it just won’t be worth the effort.

They don’t even address the whole ownership thing, which iTunes does best. When I buy a song off iTunes, I own it. I don’t have to subscribe to anything to get the right to use it, which is how it seems all the other “services” work. Which is why Apple and iTunes succeeds and the rest scramble and pull this crap. Sure, I can only play that on a mere 10 machines but I can play it my ipod or a CD which is all I want or need really anyway. It’s certainly more than anyone else gives you in comparison.

Oh sure, I imagine Jobs is hopping mad on the phone, but I bet he’s laughing once he closes his office door.

Now that Real has made such a huge deal of this it can’t be anything short of “fabulous” the critics waiting for it to come out. And well, we know Real can’t do that. This is a whole new level of expectation for them to try to fulfill. They have never been able to work more than “Eh, it works at least” from the windows side, and the mac side Real is little more than a curse word. “It works at least” is not going to be enough for the community of users so used to high end offerings from Apple. (Even for those just hitching on the iPod part of the ride.)

The media and iPod community’s laser beams will be focused on this new app. It won’t take any kind cuts if it’s not up to snuff. After they are done slicing up Real’s first shoddy and sad effort into the iPod field it’ll be forced to scamper off to lick it’s wounds. Hopefully, we won’t see it in these parts any more. Sure, It’ll be lurking in the woods on the outside of town, occasionally coming out to sell trinkets it picked out of people’s garbage. We won’t look it in the eye and it’ll go back into the woods again and we’ll forget about it until next time.

I just wish the RIAA would let companies use Mp3s, then all this proprietal garbage wouldn’t matter. I could buy songs from whoever I want, they could compete for price and I could play it on anything I wanted.

Oh, I need to stop drinkin’!

Put the US Constitution on your iPod.

Might come in handy to be able to recite it when facing off protesters at the movie theatre, to inform them the movie is truly within the constitutional rights, and technically they are not.

Tip for iTrip users

I posted this to Sledge’s blog, but thought since I was about due for another post I’d do it here too”

One annoying thing can happen when using the iTrip in random mode on your entire library; the tiny tracks that you install into your iPod to “tune” your itrip are capabale of being played as well when you hose your entire collection to random play.

Playing one will cause your iPod to retune itself to a new channel frequency and cause you to have to try to set the frequency back while on the road. BIG HASSLE. DANGEROUS.

To stop this from occurring:

Make a Smart Playlist, tell it to ONLY include any and ALL songs over say 10 seconds long.

Call this playlist “random” or something memorable. if you want it up top of the playlist list, give it a number at the front (“1 Collection Random”

Drag the playlist on to the ipod. Update that puppy. (If yours Auto updates: right click iPod in tunes set to “iPod Options…” and turn it to “Manually manage all playlists”, and drag it over to the iPod, then set back to Auto.)

Now when in the car, when you want your whole collection to randomize, play the new random playlist.

You will now NOT play ANY itrip tuning tracks and reprogram your itrip as those tracks are only 5 seconds long and not included on that playlist.

TADAH!

You can thank RenGirl for this one

My iPod syncs my address book and notes but Pod2Go also puts other handy things on your iPod as well.

Movie times, horoscopes, your favorite news or blog sites, stock sticker, mac sticky notes… or driving directions – which is why I installed it. Directions to sca event sites. I don’t carry the Handspring toomuch anymore, and being after palm bought them, they stopped supporting OSX so while it was harder to update than it used to it’s even harder now! I’ll just keep it for games on plane and car rides I guess.

Rock on. This is awesome. Thanks Donna!
