OH HELL YEAH!

Boys and girls, Flickr will now email you your photo’s comments (and contacts uploads).

Now, let us pray, and thank the pixel gods… maybe now I won’t be moved to leave flickr up 24/7 so I can click on “recent activity” every hour on the dot, maybe more…

California is weird.

Mr Man saw this at the mall in Orange County

Mr Man is away on business in Orange County this week, and so he’s been sending pictures up to flickr. This one tops them all.

Blue mannequins with shoes on their heads ala easter bunny, with a tiger. Uh… yeah. Isn’t it a little early for Blue Man Group Easter? and I doubt those shoes will fit in a plastic egg.

Attention all Flickr Whores!

Flickr Backup (for PC or Mac) allows you to batch download any pics, or sets. Hal-a-freaking-lula! If you use Flickr to store your collection this is a godsend. one by one blows chunks.

I’m using this method to put some of my favorite shots (that I took) on my iPod, but what it needs is a way to allow you to put your Flickr favorites(that other peopel took) to your ipod) as well. THAT would doubly rock!

Least Wanted

Least Wanted’s photosets on Flickr are all criminals. What they did or even who they are most times is unknown, but the pics (he’s gathered over 10,000 mug shots) have been gathered in a book as well as on his flickr account.

If you live in Scranton or New Castle PA, Denver, Minneapolis, Hollywood or Cincinnati there are a few sets that you will want to check out. Might find grandpa or grandma on there, who knows.

Cool Flickr Thingie

Okay, on ANY picture that you can leave a note on… make one…

Type in “ho ho ho hat” and scaleable santa hat will appear.
Type in “ho ho ho beard” and you get a santa beard.
(of course no qoutes, duh.) Be sure to hit save!

I did this to photos from many of my flickr contacts today (check your recent activity page). Merry Xmas if you got one, or even if you didn’t. (I probably didn’t find the right kind of pic for it.)

This is reader HoneyBunny before:
Jazz Hands! (by thehoneybunny)

Click the pic to see “after”. Muhahah! Ho ho ho!

Throwaway stuff like this is why I love flickr. Too much fun.

For the flickr addicts

Been meaning to write this up a while… slow news week, so here we go:

If you live on Flickr (like I do) you need to see firefox pimped out for it. There are alot of folks writing these great scripts to make flickr behave easier, or make repetive tasks far less so. Also if you are a group whore, to make it easier to submits one popic to multiple groups at once, and faster, than Flickr’s organizer.

First: Install this one little extention and restart Firefox (and it ONLY works with FF).
After you install there will be a little smiling monkey along the bottom right side of your status bar in FF. If you click him you can turn him frowny. It turns Greasemonkey on/off. But if you right click him, you get a pop up and you can go to “manage user scripts” and go in to each script and personlize some them, add urls for the promotional scripts, etc… or dis/able scripts you do/don’t like individually. It’s very easy, very handy.

Once installed boogie over to Steeev’s Flickr Projects and take a look and pick what you want.
I have most all of these installed… Steeev makes some killer handy things. You can even change how F looks (want a black background?) and behaves just for you. If you spend any time on Flickr half of this is stuff you’ve wished for.

To install a GM script it’s easy as hell. Just click the download, link under the ones you want and you’ll see a code page pop up, up above you will see a bar with something like “YO, this is a greasemonkey script, you want to install it?” on it, just click the button. Done!

Another one I think everyone should use (and a bookmarklet version is aviable for other browser users) is: Flickr: Add referer into comments by Mortimer.

It will add a dynamic footer to each of your comments on anyone’s photos saying where you clicked on the thumbnail to get to the pic (group, set, photostream, contacts page, another site, explore page…etc) Iand adds the code for it right inthe comment field ready for you to add your comment above. It’s fabulous. And if you choose not to use it on some comment you are making you can just delete it from the comment field before you hit the button. If you aren’t afirad of raking some code, you can do what I did and use the Greasemonkey editor on this one to make the scripted comments in the code sound less dry and more like yourself (like I replaced “een in your stream” with “potted in your spiffy photostream, etc, an across the board Jenifying. It’s fine as is though too!)

Under neath the GM script download is intructions for Sfari. IE users to get the bookmarklet. Everyone should use this, it’s awesome.

And last but not least, the Flickr Hacks Group good place to check for new scripts, ssee if one has been updated if the page hasn’t, or request a new script of the massive programming geeks there.

I kill me

I’m still laughing over this from this weekend. I toyed over whether to share it or not since it’s SCA related but thought I would anyway.

So I met up with Karen and Jeff – bloggers, readers, and sca folks – who just escaped from Florida to Indiana (escape from indiana is part II to come later) and we went out to dinner At Craka’Barrel after the event. As we walk out we meet up with some other locals scadians hanging on the “porch” this conversation moves to local feasts with theme meats:

Local: ” blah blah blah… owns a blank-farm.”

Me: (didn’t hear what he said) Elf farm?

Jeff: (laughing at me) Elf Farm?

Me: Hey, I’d eat elf. I bet it’s minty.

Thank yewwwww, please tip your waitress! Goodnight!

Holy Visions

Forget the Mary water stain on that wall. Dime a dozen. Just saw a local story on the morning news. This redneck dude found this turtle crossing the road, no really, and the markingson it’s back one side look liek a E and the other a 3… wait for it… it’s a Dale Earnhardt turtle. To top it off he says everytime the turtle hits the ground it tries to head south. I’m assuming to Daytona.

If i find a link I’ll post it just to prove I’m not making this up.

And now two from my darling brother:
25 worst websites – I’ve actully been to mosst of these, I just didn’t know they were still there! Here’s the list if you want to skip to the end…

Check this wedding cake out:

OMG! My geeky gamer brother is now kicking himself for not thinking of it first.

Here’s the whole story! Short story: It was the bride’s surprise gift to the groom. Aww….

Best Flickr set EVAR!

Photographing Squirrels with Cameras.

No really, taking pictures of real wild squirrels next to real vintage cameras. No computer editing, he swears. Some are completely odd and others entirely cute as hell. Hours of time well spent!

BeeAfriad

I would not advise clicking from work, not because he is naked (not, but nearly) in his lace and frills but because someone might see and think you are into that kinda thing but BeeLira wins the scariest Flickerstream… at least of the week. I’m Sure I’ll find a “ever” thats far worse.

How did I find it you may ask? One of these lovely pictures was in the Explore. Ugh.

Flickr Addict?

Use firefox? These links will give you some wonderous hacks that add amazing Flickr functionality and hacks you will wonder how you lived without them.

All you need to do it install Greasemonkey , restart, then go here. Click the links to the script you want. For each you’ll go to a new screen and along the stop of the screen in something that looks like a popup alert but it will ask if you want to install it. Say yes! When you are all done, restart Firefox.

Best of all if you ever want the old ways back you just go to the smiling monkey at the bottom of the broswer window, click him and they all go off. Right click him and you can enable/disable on the fly the ones that are active for that particular page (just reload the page to get it old school). Go to the edit menu to edit or turn off any of the installed ones.

I will say that the “group organizer script is fabulous for us grou junies – but almost invisible . It makes the • next to the group names into a kill switch. Just double click the • to quit the group, and hit return button for the pop-down verification. Very fast way to quit a crapload of groups.

If you can’t figure out what a particular script does, go to edit and view the code, the upper part of the script usually explains how to work it or what it does.

It’s very easy I swear! If I can do it, and I’m not a huge hack junkie, anyone can. I’ve installed nearly all of them and they kick much butt.

You can thank me later.

Flickr has gone Gamma and changes are hard to miss if you are a Flickrati. I’m a little miffed at the loss of the Tags link, but I’ll get used to it, it’s still there just in a drop down. Everything in dropdowns now.

It will be a bit of an adustment, but already I love the new Organizr. It’s way faster, easier to use, more adaptable and you can find photos without tags or not in a set. I love that. It seems a vast improvement.

Kudos, at least partially, all around.

Lonley Yellow

Yellow is the lonliest color

At Best Buy toady. The long row of cart out front had one yellow intruder about 1/4 from the end. He looked so alone.

Just one of those shots that you take for Flickrssake.

And lo, let it be known, that on this day, Sunday February the 19th, 2006, Jennifer E. Segrest didst thou invent the word “FLICKRSSAKE”. It’s meaning is “for one to take photographs for the sheer pleasure of whoring yourself for comments on Flickr.com. And, yea, it was good.

More from Jonathon Coulton

My favorite online geek balladeer, Jonathon Coulton now has amusic video ode to Flickr.

I wanna marry this guy, or would if not for that pesky Mr Man hanging around all the time asking me to cook and crap. The New Mr Man would at least get my Flickr addiction.
