The area Sylar went bad is he saw where the telekenesis guy had something "broken" in his brain where it had evolved and developed the TK ability. He ripped the brain out to see where it was changed and modified his own to switch the power on. I'm betting when they pull his hat off, you'll see a ring around his skull cap where he's removed it.
