YouTube, you’re on notice too!
Posted by jen August 1st, 2006 in Media Junkie. So YouTube kinda annoys me. Don’t get me wrong I like the whole viral video thing, (I like Ifilm better for that though,) but what annoys me most about YouTube is that there seems to be no ownership of files.
Say I post a funny video of my dog Gary humping my other dogs head, it’s a pretty common sight here. So I post it to YouTube, it for some reason takes off and then suddenly 20 other people now have snatched the file and uploaded it as thier own onto YouTube.
Now say you go into YouTube to find my dog maggie getting her head humped and find 20 different posts of it, twenty different threads talking about how funny it is, and twenty other people getting credit for it.
I just find it terribly annoying. Doesn’t anyone at YouTube do a repeat check?
I say the rule is ‘He what first uploads it owns it’, damn it. IS that so hard?

The only way to put content on a site like, well, any of the video sites which apparently have no respect from their owners for anything as uncool as intellectual property, is to put your name or URL or other identifier onto every frame, which significantly reduces the enjoyment factor of the video.
I can’t really get behind “He what first uploads it” because there’s so much stuff on all of those sites that no individual has any right to upload that it’s all a wretched boondoggle.
Hell, I don’t even care so much about the ownership thing because I think that horse is already WAY out of the barn.
I totally agree with the multiple uploading thing, though. It pisses me off to no end seeing the same damn video listed 20 times when I am looking for something. These morons are too stupid to do a simple search before uploaded something they want to share. If it is already there, stop flooding, you fucking idiot!
you know what else is ass? the ads with SOUND that you can’t turn off. um hello, trying to listen to a VIDEO?!
