Posted by jen November 29th, 2005 in Diversions. 0 Commentsor maybe not… Look at the George Lucas-esque bumbling of the best fiction writers out there who get paid for this stuff.
And that is #28596753 of things that you will never see in the US mainstream press. And we’re so “free” eh?

Posted by jen November 29th, 2005 in Linkage. 0 CommentsA few months ago I linked a song by Jonathan Coulton about a Powerbook, this time it’s a woman singing about her mac, in “I love my mac”.
In an non-mac related note, also be sure to check out Coulton’s new version of Baby Got Back and well all his other stuff really, it’s all iPod worthy. He’s added a bunch of new stuff since I was there last, and it’s all five star.

Posted by jen November 28th, 2005 in Jeneral. 0 CommentsToday the cool guy Armand Frasco with the cool Ikea blog Positive Fanatics surprised me with a email - he bought me ohikea.com and .net and GAVE it to me so no dirty spammers or porno purveyors would squat it. How sweet! I already even have the redirects turned on and it works (here at least) already. Go give Armand some click love and visit his site, it’s really cool.
While I was doing the godaddy registrant changeup thing on those I finally broke down and bought verybigblog.com for this one and it’s working as well now too. YAY! So you ungrateful bastids now have a shorter address to my blatherings. I might in time MOVE the blog there, and forward this old address to it, but for now, it’s staying as is just with a new piping hot alternate address.

You’ll laugh till you cry. Make sure to sub them through iTunes too!

Posted by jen November 26th, 2005 in Linkage. 3 CommentsA few weeks ago I got a letter saying that a few of my designs were part of of a massive Sceintology C&D sent to Cafepress. Over 100 designs on the site were listed and my Save Katie Space invaders (I only used “scientology” as a keyword for the design) ones were in there. What did Cafepress say? A nice long legalese letter politely saying “bite me”. They scored big with me on that one. It was really good to read they weren’t scared of the big bad Scientology legal machine who will sue if you sneeze a guttural sound that merely sounds like “Xenu” or “L Ron”.
Well, someone else isn’t afraid of them either… The guys behind South Park. A few years ago they did a totally factual episode on the story behind mormonism (being mormons themselves) and how ridiculously silly, yet essentially harmless, the religion is.
The last South Park (I was out of town, forgive me for this being late) took on Scientology and the actual belief system, complete with Tom cruise and Travolta. Freaking brilliant. And one I never expected as Isaack Hayes who plays Chef is a Scientologist. Needless to say he was NOT in the episode.
Here’s a good synopsis of the show and here (.avi) is a video of it hosted by Operation Clambake the Anti-Scientology site.
You can also find it here and here (best for macs), and of course using Bit Torrent and other places online.
If you didn’t see it, do so, it was a riot. Especially the end where Stan is alone on screen daring the scientologists to sue him. Let’s all wait and see if they do.

0 CommentsMovie rantings
Posted by jen November 26th, 2005 in Jen@TheMovies. 2 CommentsThe Perfect Man with Hilary Duff was our in-flight “entertainment” back from vegas. Let me just say I used my own headphones and still paid too much (nothing). I almost chewed my arm off in trying to supress my brain begging for the sweet release that only death can bring. Eventually the iPod whispered to us that it was charged up and wanted played with. Thank god.
One thing I learned in Mr man and I trying to challenge each other’s musical knowledge on the plane is that his musical 80’s knowledge doesn’t expand much past hair metal, heavy metal, Duran Duran - and Flock of Seagulls (WHAT DID I MARRY???). He can’t identify nearly anything else from the era. Nothing sparked his memory, not the Cure, not anything - and I played some mainstream stuff! So very sad. Not a single Cure song… I think that’s divorceable.
Other movies I’m pissed about:
RENT:
NO way in hell will I ever see this. You couldn’t pay me to even pretend seeing it. First it’s in NYC, who freaking cares about that anywhere but there, and Second, they are all too pretty and too fabulous, to self absorbed and I just couldn’t give less of a freaking damn if it was a musical about dogs wearing underwear. (I’d prolly see that one though…![]()
HARRY POTTER:
I haven’t read it, not gonna. Not gonna see it either, can’t make me so shut the HELL UP ABOUT IT ALREADY. I’ll die first. Seriously. So there. All you fourty year olds without kids raving about it need to get lives and stop hyperventilating over it like it’s some magical mana from Micheal Jackson’s kiddie porn heaven. If you get so worked up reading a children’s book series and so into the movies like that - you really need therapy. Dude.
MADAGASCAR:
Is this any good? Seriously. The folks who made Shrek did it so that gets some street cred along with Pixar with me, but it seemed to do nothing at the box office and I heard no one raving about it until just now with all the dvd ads for it. Is it worth a rental? Is it a good animated movie (like Shrek, Nemo or ANY Pixar stuff) or just an “okay” kids movie? (I have no interest in a kids movie AT ALL). It has to be FUNNY to people who pay mortgages.
Okay, going to bed now, been running around for two days… pooped.
2 CommentsI’m in the news again!
Posted by jen November 26th, 2005 in My Phat Skillz. 0 CommentsA couple of weeks ago it was BusinessWeek and now it’s local!
My crack network of sources (OH IKEA commentors, as well as my own mom) tell me that the article I interviewed with a “Cincinnati Magazine” writer a few times for about the city trying to lure destination retailers - and that Cincinnatian’s are crying out for an IKEA - is in the December issue of Cincinnati Magazine (The signature “Best of Cincinnati” issue!).
It’s just hitting newsstands right now, even I don’t have a copy and I live here! i’ll be hitting Kroger’s all week trying to get my own copy now.

Went to Oatman, Arizona on Route 66 today to see the wild burros that come into town to mooch carrots from tourists. Got a bunch of pics from the desert up on my flickr account in a shiny new photo set.
We are out of here wednesday so one more full day to gamble. Bayer Back and Body still kicks ass.
2 CommentsHello from Vegas!
Posted by jen November 21st, 2005 in Jeneral. 0 CommentsWe moved from our comped room at the Plaza to a room we’re paying for at the Monte Carlo. We’ve stayed at the MC before, and we’ll continue too - pillow top mattresses. After three nights on the wire spring crap at he Plaza (nice room, bad bed) to the soft pillowy comfort of the carress of a pillowtop there is no comparion.
Just a nap today on it after check in made ALL the difference in our backs - well… and Bayer Back and Body.
I’ve been suffering a bad back all trip so bad even walking was pretty much a torture. And Mr Man wretched his on the plane so we’ve been more bound to the hotels than normal. But we broke down to get some medicinal help and man, let me just say that that shit works. On both of us, no less. That’s proof to us. This and Excedrin will be in our med kits from now on.
Anyway I just upped a bunch of new pics from the real camera - go see them! More tommorrow if I have time. (we have access at the Monte too, the Plaza didn’t)
Ok night all - pillowtop sleepy nest awaits!

Posted by jen November 20th, 2005 in Media Junkie. 0 CommentsThe University of California has been collecting old cylinder recording from the 1900s and not only preserving them, but recording them into streaming audio for all to hear. I thought it was a nice change to the System Of A Down and Lords Of Acid I’ve been playing lately.

Ok, we’ll try and post something different this time.
I found this on IWantMyFlashTV, which has a collection of some amazing Flash movies, games, etc. It’s worth a mention to hit that site to check those other works out.
The one that caught my eye and my ear was “The JCB Song”. A british songwriter’s account of ridding around with his dad in his JCB (backhoe). The song itself is catchy and the animation is very well done.
The ending is what got me laughing. The final notes at the end quote “I must never make another animated video. It’s a lot of work” like a Bart Simpson chalkboard.
Might have to look that group up and see what other music from them is out there and if it’s any good.

Posted by jen November 16th, 2005 in Linkage. 3 CommentsDID you see Trading Spouses the last two weeks? I did, I expect the Pagan religions to have an influx of membershipfrom it, they came off looking good. That screeching elephant of a woman is what is wrong with modern Christians. Her husband only needs to show the Judge those shows to get a no fault divorce.
Anyway, so momumentous were thos emoments in television that someone decided she needed enshrinement in Bobblehead land.
3 CommentsAlmost one vacation
Posted by jen November 16th, 2005 in Jeneral. 0 CommentsWe will be traveling to Vegas once more tomorrow - I’m gonna ask my brother FunkyBlue to post in my stead again, you think I find weird links? Half of them come from him, and I only post half of what he sends me!
Bonus this trip!: I’ll try to post camera (treo) pictures from the road to my flickr account so be sure to check them out! If there are any they will be found here.
Vbb girl is now on vacation as well!
0 CommentsSunday mornings at the Waffle house
Posted by jen November 13th, 2005 in Jeneral. 3 CommentsWe’ve taken to going to Wafflehouse for sunday breakfast the last couple weeks, it’s served to be quite revealing. If you don’t have a Waffle House it’s like a 24-hour Ihop for white trash and truckers. It’s basic food and it’s hard to messup toast and eggs so it’s cheap eats. If you are thinking of the Diner in the old sitcom Alice, you’re close, but its smaller.
No shredded cheese here, if you want cheese you get a melted plastic wrapped “kraft” slice on top or inside. Waitresses call you honey and wear lots of hairspray and lipstick, even at 8am.
Anyway, last week one of the waitresses husbands is back in jail again and he owes her support. This week one of them got their licenses suspended for a year. Mr Man and I often find ourselves straining to hear the waitresses talking while we eat. That’s entertainment for you $6 I tell ya!
I also found out that if you are old and crochety you can make the cook make you pancakes, which is NOT on the menu - helloooo it’s WAFFLE HOUSE! The cook came over a few minutes later to get his pancake specs and the man asked for heated milk whipped up with a whisk for his coffee… you guessed it, he got a Latte at Waffle House - also not on the menu. I think they’d have trouble pronouncing latte.
Even more baffling the cook said “
ure I can do that.” even though he sounded confused by the request.
Holiday Barbie, move over

If crappy prequels with dialog that would embarrass any fanfiction writer, awful continuity, and generally messing up our childhood memories wasn’t enough… now he pulls this one:
I don’t know how he sleeps at night - oh wait yes I do… all warm and cozy in his heaping mountains of money
