Posted by jen February 24th, 2005 in Linkage. 0 CommentsDogdoorofdeath blog is reborn! From Way Away - A Portland, Maine Travelogue
I really enjoyed his previous blog, and will certainly enjoy this one, though I miss the pictures of dogs scorecards.
Speaking of Portland, Maine, remember that pendant Mr Man picked up, the one from the rev War period? Well, it’s being auctioned off in the town is was made centuries ago - you guessed it Portland Maine - on March 26th! It’s expected to pull at LEAST $2,000. I’ll keep you all appraised.
My pictures were better than the ones they used, but oh well.
I want to go to the auction SOOOO bad just to watch and see who wins, but alas, airfare is not cheap enough.
0 CommentsOne week with Tivo
Posted by jen February 24th, 2005 in Jeneral. 1 CommentWell, almost a week.
The only thing I’m sorry about is that I didn’t get it sooner, oh yeah, and that we didn’t get two of them, one for each TV. But that’s two things…
If someone out there with Tivo can tell me is it just FOX who has the record triggers in ads for their shows, that “Press thumbs up to record this program” thing? I don’t notice it on any other network, just FOX. That’s freaking awesome! Why don’t they all do it?
We tried “thumbing down” the dogs wanting to go outside every 42.5 minutes, it appears they were mysteriously unaffected and still had to make. Stinkin’ passive aggressive mutts.
We’re slowly getting used to the “peanut” shaped remote… we never can tell top from bottom. We smart.
Patton Oswalt says it best: I love my Tivo!
(BTW, My Tivo HAS started recording horse shows… but on the other hand it’s picked up I love Forensic Files on Court TV really fast! I get at least three shows recorded a day - yay! I love CSI sci-crime stuff.)

0 CommentsNuma numa guy
Posted by jen February 22nd, 2005 in Media Junkie. 1 CommentImagine my surprise just now to have the Today show on they have the band who did the Romanian hit pop song “Numa Numa” song and all during the performance they cut to snippets of the video of the man who made it famous, a 19 year old from New Jersey, interspersed all through the performance.
Now, The band is okay (one member is from NY), the song oddly catchy - but the kid is the star. And he was local to the show - why didn’t they have HIM on? He’s more of a star than band (in this country anyway).

Posted by jen February 20th, 2005 in Media Junkie. 0 CommentsBack in the glory days of Babylon 5, the writer/producer “J Michael Strazynski posted all his updates, answers and general fan contact stuff to a BBS. Nowdays he would have a blog.
The new, and very very good, Battlestar Galactica’s Executive Producer Ron Moore does has a blog. Be sure to go into the archives for Feb and read his Star Trek cancellation post.

Posted by jen February 20th, 2005 in Jeneral. 2 CommentsFuture finally foretold
Posted by jen February 20th, 2005 in Linkage. 0 CommentsI know I’v posted ont his before, but now the people behind it, and thier reasons for it, are known.
Both these first link are LONG so skim if you want. There was a Something Awful post a couple years ago about a guy getting a visit from the future at his house, we’ll call this part one. The mysterious man gives him a book filled with snippets about him and his life. Then leaves.
A year later he recieves an email from the man with futher instrcutions for a meeting in Minneapolis, we’ll call this part two they fly him out, and put him on a scavenger hunt type quest “for the future”. What follws is a fascinating write up on just going with the flow for funs sake. The subject never did find who the people were.
Until now. The “future people” are art students, and this waspart of an art school project. (scroll down to DYLAN REIFF AND JOE KORSMO)
Artists, feh. Ruined a perfectly good mystery.
Oddly, one of the instigators is a student at Antioch, in my back yard almost, where we just about grew up with mom working at the local (then only int he region) NPR station. Somehow I wasn’t surpsied. Antiochians are a bit odd.

Posted by jen February 19th, 2005 in iPod Junkie. 5 CommentsMy ipod is being fed well with the re-run of the Pepsi iTunes caps.
My dad drinks several at work, and his buddies there give him their caps, he ends up giving me anywhere from 3-7 codes each night! My brother and his wife are giving me codes as well. SCHWING! (Got a code you aren’t gonna use!?Feed my iPod!)
So far? 31 songs! I bought the new Lewis Black stand up album, but I still have 21 song credits waiting to be cashed in.
Any suggestions on what to buy next? I am mui eclectic, willing to listen to pretty much anything from Dean Martin to Marilyn Manson to Medieval German bagpip music.

Update on Guckert/Gannon
Posted by jen February 18th, 2005 in Media Junkie. 0 CommentsI thought though my post yesterday was pretty complete, I’d post an update.
This “Gannon” guy had his spoon, as it were, in a bunch of pots… Not only did he have an in to get into the press room with no creditals, see the Valerie Plame info, but also reportedly knew about Iraq attack four hours before it happened.
Even Ari who suspected something was fishy, did nothing, even when his office was the one issuing the passes “Gannon” used.
Tivo expected any minute. I called the White House to ask when President Chimpy was gonna comment on this story, and asked for an investigation to who “Gannon” was screwing in the White House/Cabinet to get the access he got.
Where’s my Tivo!? I hope it shows before Homeland security shows up to haul me to Gitmo.

Posted by jen February 18th, 2005 in Media Junkie. 1 CommentA few days ago I called DirectTv. We have some dying equipment as of late and so I started thinking about that we still pay for basic cable despite having local channels on the dish because the box in two rooms is broken. and freezes up. And the remote on the other box is Dying. I’ve been begging Mr Mand for over a year to PLEASE let us replace the stuff.
He always veto, it would cost money he didn’t want to spend, money I’m not making right now (since *I* don’t have a steady job), yadda yadaa… then when the bedroom locks up every twenty minutes or the remote is temperamental every night he gets mad. Men never make sense.
Then the fact our boxes are so old (8 years) they don’t even make the single/dual system anymore so the double box in the back couldn’t be replaced if we had to, so replacing both was the only option.
So I made an executive decision Wednesday. Dang it, as much as we use and love the service it was stupid to put up with it when we DO have the money.
I always thought it was wrong that customers for 8 years should have to pay for replacement equipment when new people get everything free. So, I called DirectTv and started dealing.
The guy was willing to deal, luckily. So we’re getting two boxes, one box with Tivo, installation - all for $99 split over three months. I got a really good deal. Normally, it would have cost about $250.
All totaled we’ll save money to get new equipment. We can finally cancel the cable that’s $12 or $14 a month so we could use it a couple hours a week because the back box froze up constantly. Buying the remote replacement for the front box would have been like $30. All totaled our bills are only going to increase $5 a month for the Tivo Service.
Mr Man acquiesced that I was right and that we needed to do this and it would be nice to have Tivo once and for all. I am so excited about Tivo. It’ll make our lives so much easier since we live for TV here. Be nice to finally be able to go to the store or out to dinner whenever we want.
Anymore we have so much on at the same time, with the early part of the week now piled high with good stuff then other times we have nothing to watch so this will be nice to have stuff to spread out.
1-5PM the installer comes, I can’t wait!
