[enter_1980s_mode] Oh My god Duran Duran is On the VMA’
!
AHHHHHH! AHHHHHH! Simon!!!!! AHHHHH! [leave_1980s_mode]
Whew, ok that was fun, I shared the moment over IM with Shannon , who was every bit as big of a Duranie i hear as i was back then, but now it’s time for a rant.
So, I was watching the rebrodcast to see the famed slut/whore/skank three-way/kiss. (But I think it was at the beginning because it hasn’t apped yet.) And I hd something no one else has mentioned.
Duran Duran (the now reformed original band) came on to present “Best Dance Video” (WHY? Do ANY of them dance?) with Kelly Osbourne and Avril Lavingne (Again WHY?).
They all get out there, once Duran starts to come out the crowd goes wild. (YAY!)
Then Kelly goes “oh my god I’m such a huge fan” (which I believed since she looked honestly awed) and said that ’surprise’ they were out here to get lifetime achievement awards (!!!) The Canadian was useless.
I got all excited, about damn time! They all look just floored, Simon (who else) goes to the mic and thanks everyone, then John leans in and does his bit announcing the “Best Dance Video” nominees.
No video retrospective, no nothing. WHAT A FREAKING INSULT!!!
They got a standing O, but MTV did NOTHING ELSE. Duran Duran only MADE that network, they only made like 100 music videos before Christina Slutguilara was even 5 years old.
The geniuses at MTV couldn’t walk across the hall to VH1 Classic and dig out just one? Why couldn’t they have made a 10th of the big deal they made over Johnny Cash’s video that MTV has only ever shown a FEW TIMES at most!
They couldn’t b to give them 60 seconds of retrospective lovin’ for the years they gave to MTV? 1 FREAKING minute? No, two teen trollops threw a statue at them and they STILL had to share the segement with the “real” award.
I KNOW MTV has made a big deal over Lifetime Achievement awards in the past for OTHER artists, but Duran was evidentially not worth the effort to them. Hell, I bet it was even an afterthought. They are reformed with all the original memebers, on tour and have a new album. What more do they want?
Oh yeah, for them to be 25 years younger.
Dirty rotten bastards.
ADDITION:
As incensed as I am? CALL MTV.
Word is they had a “glitch” and thats why the planned presentation never was shown. Funny usually if there is a glitch on this stuff, someone usually says that. (but then look who they chose to “Present” their awards.) At very least they could have showed it top of the the next segment, after the commercial break.
I’m calling to demand they edit it in this alleged prepared segment for future showings of the VMA 2003 awards, or do a special on Duran Duran. They certainly deserve it. MTV owes them.

all I can say is AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! John Taylor!!! AHHHHH!!
you know.. I was digging through old photos.. and there is a pic of my friend Claire and I both sporting our DD tshirts.. I think I had every one… MTV sucks.. ever since they stopped playing real music….
This thread says that there was a “technical glitch” at the show as to why the big prepared video was not shown, and thats why DD was screwed over.
YEAH RIGHT. Did they BOTHER to edit it in the replay? No.
grrrrr.
I’m with Shannon… god, doesn’t John Taylor still look good. I recently found about half a dozen Duran Duran books in my mother’s basement recently… of course, part of me regrets spending my hard-earned babysitting money on all of that stuff when I was a teenager, but the other part was just mesmerized again.
a few years back they (MTV) had a big anniversary special (I can’t remember if it was 18 or 20 years on the air) but it was really ridiculous how many great acts they didn’t bother mentioning. I can’t remember if Duran Duran were ever mentioned but they should have been. Lately, MTV has been about teeny bopper crap that’s more about what sells and not what sounds good. Even MTV2 and VH1 are starting to become more like MTV. It sucks.
Rat bastards. Long live the Fab Five!
Yeah, I was about to say that during the live telecast, they had techinical problems. But Jen is right.. a little editing eforrt might pay off. Being that they’ll air this from now until Kelly Osbourne herself is honored.
