Col. David Hogg, commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, said tougher methods are being used to gather the intelligence. On Wednesday night, he said, his troops picked up the wife and daughter of an Iraqi lieutenant general. They left a note: “If you want your family released, turn yourself in.” Such tactics are justified, he said, because, “It’s an intelligence operation with detainees, and these people have info.” They would have been released in due course, he added later.
Uhm, hold on a minute.. isn’t that basically kidnapping/hostage taking and VERY ILLEGAL not only civilly and morally but also against the Geneva Convention? AND the rules of war? Why isn’t this guy in the brig facing a war crimes tribunal? Or a Court Martial? WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Unfortunately, the U.S. is exempt from ICC prosecution.
What do you expect we are a rouge nation with a leader who got much less than a elected majority that has been pulling out of war crime tribunals left and right and invaded a country with the direct disapproval of the UN security counsel. BTW showing the corpses of Saddam’s sons was a direct violation of the Geneva convention. You know there is an election coming up next year.
The Geneva Convention, as I understand it, only applies to nations at war. And I don’t believe the United States has made a formal declaration of war against any other nation, including Afghanistan and Iraq.
However, I may be in error.
So you are saying that illegal wars are not covered under international war crime law
Yes, I believe that’s how it works.
But I thought Amerika could do whatever it wanted! Am I to understand this is not the case?
