More on the Star Wars kid

His parents are suing as the international mockfest has taken it’s toll on the kid.

When I saw the video on Waxy.org, I’ll admit, it was funny…but not in a hurtful way. I watched it, thinking of all the times I’ve seen kids I babysat or kids in my family pretending something, totally into it, with all the unbridled enthusiasm and energy that the unjaded innocence of youth allows.
Its hard to not squint an eye and wonder for a moment if the parents are taking advantage of the situation by suing, but MY GOSH, if the kid has been hospitalized from stress, had to switch schools and had his whole life changed…well, lets just say there is no real price tag you can put on the damage done to someone’s self esteem when they’ve been tortured like this…

Jesus, don’t you think maybe his parents could find a better way to help than panhandling the American way (suing)? Is money going to help him deal with this whole thing?
And the kid is under psychiatric care in a hospital? Sounds like there were possibly some issues there before this happened.

    Hey, Michael,
You’re right about that…there are definitely other better ways to help than suing. I think some times people sue to create consequences for those who do wrong, or to make an example out of wrong-doers. Because surely, the $250,000 is not going to fix the real problem.
Did you ever get picked on as a kid? Now, multiply that by thousands… I think it could make the most stable person in the world snap!

If I recall, it was the kid’s own fault for not erasing the tape before leaving it in the camera for others to find. That should be taken into account at any trial that occurs.
In my younger years, I was also chubby, like this kid. Everyone picks on you, no matter what you do. It’s just how kids are at that age. Although, film of you pretending to be a Jedi will give the other kids plenty of ammo.

    thousands? try millions!

one site alone had over a million downloads, then add in that many hundreds put it on their own sites, on kazaa, or in email to friends.

he was more famous than Jayson Blair but for being a silly kid who likes star wars only and MANY MANY jokes were made about him being fat. it was on TV, it was everywhere.

the kids that put it online were stupid bullies, they could have just taunted him in person, but no they showed the whole world.

the kid’s gonna have to change his name.

This could drive most kids to suicide, especially since the ENTIRE WORLD OIS MAKING FUN OF YOU and the folks at home are really laying in hard.

This is AS embarrassing/mortifying to a teenager, as a woman who might get the video of she and her man having sex put on the internet without her knowing.

People have committed suicide over less, that might WELL be why he’s in the hospital. It would have got me thinking about a way out.

sure I dont think him avoiding a round of being taunted was ever in the picture, but them taking it to the net was too far.

They prolly very nearly drive this kid to suicide.

Dunno, I still don’t buy it. The vast majority of people in the world have still never even heard of this kid. I think they are playing it up to get more cash.
Do we all feel bad for that poor guy whose pic was used in that Burger King flash thing? (Would you like an apple pie with thaaaaat) Nope, not unless his parents decided to sue whoever made it, right?

everyone I know online has heard of him if not at least seen the video.. he was a shy awkward kid to begin with… I hope he is okay… really.. he seemed cool to me…

I think the money thing isn’t a big deal. Yeah, it’s a civil suit but anyone in America would have sued for millions, not $250,000. That 250K is probably helping to pay psychiactric bills as I doubt they’re covered by Canada’s socialized health care plan.

Its really not that much money. Their attorney will get a big cut(30-50%)for starters. Not to mention additional court costs, then the medical bills and who knows, maybe they plan to move?

Kids are cruel. I so wish that there was a way to let young people know that it gets better when you’re older. You just have to ride it out: I was a total geek in junior high…I mean Nerd City, big time. As a ‘grown up,’ I’m still a big dork, though put together a little better. No one would ever guess that I wasn’t always this cool…(ha!)

I know Ghyslain is mortified. I can only imagine. But this, too, will pass, if he can only hang in there. I wish I’d known that when I was his age. I’d like to give him a big hug.

There ain’t no justice. I’ve got a video of me with a lightsaber up on my site, and I didn’t get an iPod and a possible Episode III cameo out of it!

Quick, somebody make fun of me so I can get some exposure!

i think Goat Man should sue also. everybody makes fun of him because of his photo and the way he stretches his bottom out with his hands. if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then good for you. if so maybe we should start thinking about defending him in court when we taker- aing a bign Donation (dstretch bottom- inserted traffic cones shapes; ~~)
