Posted by jen June 28th, 2002 in Jeneral. 1 CommentThat the dad (David Morse) of the Ricci guy they are investigating in the missing Elizabeth SMart girl sounds just like the guy from Slingbade? He was even talking about a machete they took from his property, I expected him to started talking next about french fried taters.
1 CommentBlast to my past
Posted by jen June 27th, 2002 in Jeneral. 0 CommentsD Miss Zelda,
I have a friend in desperate need of your advice.
He is a Spanish cook now living in Ireland named Bob Air-Toe (name changed to protect the innocent). The problem is two-fold. He has fallen desperately in love with a lady who live far far away, forcing him to ride many miles to see her.
However he has the WORST luck with steeds I have ever seen! One goes lame, another falls off a cliff, a third suffocated in its’ feeding bag, another had a nasty accident involving two mallards, it’s own bladder, three storks and the Bishop!
I f the poor fool has been cursed! His foul luck will one day be the death (or worse) of him, yet each time he blindly rides off to be at her side again. I’ve tried to tell him his nag will spontaneously combust while he’s riding it one of these days, and then his lady will have no use for him (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..) but the big hairy lug refuses to listen.
What should we do? Yours Flagellatiously,
Nicklelodeon Thingamagig
D Nicky-
Ahh! ….. Love is a strange beast, one minute your picking daisies humming sappy love-songs, the next you are standing out in the rain in front of his house cocking a shotgun singing “Great Balls Of Fire” like Ethel Merman.
Your Spanish friend, (Oh….let’s call him “Roberto”, it flows a bit better off the tongue…
is lucky to have a friend such as yourself, you may be the only one to get through to him the seriousness of this situation… While, “Roberto” should not disgrace his love by owning such inferior American-made steeds (every woman likes her man to have a truly “great set of hooves”
, it does indeed sound like he has been cursed.
Sounds to me like Gypsy Curse #201139-a, the “everything he does, thinks about, touches, or owns turns into something awfully nasty” curse. Horrible, someone must have hated him alot to buy that one. Most probably and ex-girlfriend (#201139-a is best-seller among disgruntled ex-girlfriends). I only hope she didn’t splurge and buy the Deluxe package!…which includes 2 side curses and a handy totebag.
“Roberto” should immmediatly get himself to a Gyspy ™ certified spellcaster to have a “double-dip ultra-reverse undo” spell done on him to counteract the #201139-a, it may take a few weeks but I think he will see noticeable results in a few days (ie..wallet reapps, dog comes back to life, hair grows back in those unmentionable places…
.
Zelda
I used to have this alter ego named Miss Zelda, who was a medieval advice columnist. And that link is one of the VERY FIRST sites I ever made, back in ohhh 1995 or so. I hand coded it even. I pulled it up today becasue the people who are hosting it ore going off line, I pulled all the pages into IE’s scrapbook for safekeeping I’ll put them into Word them eventually.
But being I don’t have much to write about and haven’t had anentry of susbstance in a few days, there you go. Go read my illicit secret past. Some of them crack me up still. it was purely a comedy work, jsut to see how wild and weird I could take it. I had a few hundred folks on the mailing list even.
It was actually published in quite a few newsletters in the medieval reneactment group I am in, and the site even got featured in a history magazine of all things. I kinda got off the kick in 1997 as I got real web design work and my interest in it waned, as you can tell inthe columns area. But it was fun while it lasted. (and no, I didn’t write the all letters to Zelda, I actually got sent them)
Jen Fact: this is why my one cat is named Zelda.

I really dig this one, and wanted to show it off. Heh hehe. 4 Comments
More for MacOSX Users
Posted by jen June 24th, 2002 in Music Fix. 0 Comments1: MacReporter is a little app that sits and watches. You tell it what to watch for when something happens, it tell syou. Great for watching blogs too I imagine.
2: DesktopControl Finder based desktop Picture switcher.
3: ChangeDesktop does this randomly from a folder of your choice.
4: CalinDock is a Mac OS X dockling that displays a monthly or daily calendar in the Dock. Really spiff.
5: “DockDisks is a hack that causes disks to auto-mount in the Dock. This can be handy if you want to put your dock on the right side of the screen but want to avoid the conflict for space with the disk icons on the desktop. It can also help avoid the problem of desktop icons becoming covered up by open windows.”

A message for girls everywhere…
Chapter Eight: Daddy loves you, almost as much as he loves your brother.
Actual Chorus:
“I know I’m Daddy’s Number One, for he loves me like I was his son…”
Folks, I can’t make this crap up.

I Love Anti-aliasing
Posted by jen June 23rd, 2002 in Apple. 5 CommentsMicrosoft snuck out Internet Explorer 5.2 when I wasn’t looking, not sure whats new yet other than ALL window/page text is anti-alised in Mac OSX. Sweet. Everything looks smooth, even my entry text here looks like print almost.
[mac maniac] OSX so freaking rocks. Wallow in inferior operating system shame, you Wintel-ites and Linuxers. [/mac maniac]
Ali
Saw Ali Tonight, Will Smith is a really good actor, captured the Ali I kinda remember growing up. The story was slow in parts but worth seeing, but it shows his little circle of the world with all the civil rights madness going on at the time. The deaths of his freind Malcom X, and Marting Luther King, the self-granidising of a younger Don King, Ali’s neat relationship with Howard Cosell, and The general creepy golddigging and self-serving of the Nation of Islam.
After seeing so many around Ali cut down by bullets, I began hoping the “Ali curse” (as we began to call it here watching it) would somehow find it’s way to Don King. That man annoys me to no end. No such luck. Not yet anyway.
5 CommentsRacoons and Fictional Rock Stars
Posted by jen June 21st, 2002 in Music Fix. 0 CommentsI’m waiting for my Dad to come over with my Uncle’s “critter catcher supplies” to catch an injured (by the nieghbors dog) racoon that got in their yard, in a tussle with Maggie’s Mom and lost, got chased up a tree, and is now stranded on their pool injured.
This is day three. No county or city service will come get it despite it’s injured and *really* pissed off. The nieghbor doesn’t have the money to pay for utilities let alone for a “critter catcher”.
So this thing is stuck, injured in thier back yard, driving my dogs crazy, and could just as easily be in MY back yard attacking my dogs, so Dad knows how to use this stuff and is coming over. He’s had to catch 6 from his back yard (with the *large* open field behind the house) this year alone so far.
So, I was sitting here watching TV and saw that Garth Brooks Dr Pepper commerical and began wondering “What ever happend to Garth Brooks with that “Chris Gaines” thing? Wasn’t it supposed to be a soundtrack for a movie or something? The album kinda flopped, and wierded out folks and critics, despite being hailed as a good endeavor on Garth’s part.

It’s this crap that makes me hate NPR more than I do now
Posted by jen June 21st, 2002 in Jeneral. 5 CommentsThis page says:
“If you would like to link to NPR from your Web site, please fill out the permission request form.“
Hey look, this is Jen NOT asking to link NPR TWICE. What they gonna do - not let me listen to the crap I hate? Or make me sit through fourty hours of “This American Life?” Only if they can keep me awake or from slashing my wrists.
It’s this kind of elietist attitude that bugs the hell out of me about all public broadcasting. And I GREW UP in a NPR station, I worked marathons from the tiem I could answer a phone.

Cab Calloway is one of my favorites, most of his stuff is forgetten now, but his work I think is a work of pure brillance and you can hear a bit of old Cab on alot of R&B and rock and roll. The next few weeks I’m going to play some more Cab and give him the glory he’s due.

Yum.
MT Thoughts
Posted by jen June 19th, 2002 in Jeneral. 1 CommentThe comments DO WORK (I removed all the test ones me and dave put up) but you get an error after you post it - ignore it, it will post. So until I figure that out don’t let it stop you from speaking back, just back button a couple times after you are done to get back here. I’ll get it all silky smooth here soon, promise, this kind of code is new to me and I have a LOW code lning curve. Trial by fire is more like it. If someone would like to offer some asstance to figure it out, let me know.
Older posts will have two headlines a while I’m going through them one by one to fix that, we’re 90% there.
On the other end, Dave is running on MT now too, actually less problematic now than me but he’s using the default template… I have to fidget with everything. He decided to start from scratch, so it’s a whole new world over at Dave’s.
Overall, I LOVE MoveableType so far, just have to get my brain trained for it. I wanna add a archive calendar to the left side bar so I’m trying to figure that out/
NOTE: I got Comments working right, thanks again to RenGirl

Posted by jen June 17th, 2002 in Jeneral. 2 CommentsFinished some beading projects, added a few new sites profiles to the “sites” are of this site and other domain maintenance.
Last week, Iconfactory linked my PixelDecor site and gave me over 1,100 hits in a few days, which sent quite a few over here. I do so love my stats addiction.
Even without those carry over hits this blog is growing in readership, which amuses me. I don’t blog like most folks do. I don’t do a tech links galore page, or a journal page. I don’t open up veins, share too much about myself, or bemoan a relationship, or even a lack of one - why do you folks still come here? I’m boring as hell. Only thing I can figure out is your here for the occasional music postings.

Posted by jen June 16th, 2002 in Apple. 0 CommentsNo family reunion is complete without a regular mac bashing session from my Dad, sometimes assisted by my brother (usually in jest).
My dad was pulling out all the stops today, “At least I can buy software at walmart for my machine!”, “You know what Apple’s problems is…”, “More people would use Apple if they would let go of the operating system and let other people make them” and then even too many to remember during the new Apple commercials. I usually can battle back but today I just wasn’t up to it and only lashed back a few times.
Every time we get together it’s a OS battle. I’m getting really sick of it. But I’m too proud to not defend it, I should just smile and nod and change the subject.

Posted by jen June 13th, 2002 in Jeneral. 0 CommentsI got an email today I got asked: … “Followed the link from iconfactory, and just wanted to add to the general adulation regarding your various sites. Excellent work. Do you get out much?”
I replied: HAHHAHA! The light! It burns! It burns! I get out about once a week anymore to buy groceries, duct tape and shotgun shells.
Sad thing is it’s not too far off from the truth, I do only leave the house about once a week. I’m thinking of getting a real job again so I don’t start recoiling at crucifixes (more than usual, anyway) and viewing the passing school children as a between meal snack. I’m having way too many serious conversations with the dogs.
